About Us |
|
SETHRA was organized in 1973 under the Human Resource Act of
1973, as amended. We are a 501(c)(3) organization with a
goal of working hand-in-hand with state, local, federal and
affiliated organizations. We have
grown from a small agency providing only a few programs to a
fourteen-million-dollar agency in 2007, administering
thirty-two programs in the region. SETHRA operates in the
following Tennessee Counties: Bledsoe, Bradley, Grundy,
Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea, and Sequatchie.
Mission
It is the mission of Southeast Tennessee Human Resource
Agency to empower families, moving them from dependence to
independence, by providing comprehensive services in
collaboration with local, state, and federal resources.
Vision
It is the vision of Southeast Tennessee Human Resource
Agency to develop programs that respond to emerging needs of
Tennessee families and fight the war against poverty. This
will be accomplished by creating a society in which everyone
has the capacity to be productive, resourceful, and achieve
self-sufficiency. |

How We Work |
|
Our mission is carried out through a variety
of means including: (a) community-wide assessments of needs
and strengths, (b) comprehensive antipoverty plans and
strategies, (c) provision of a broad range of direct
services, (d) mobilization of financial and non-financial
resources, (e) advocacy on behalf of low-income people and
(f) partnerships with other community-based organizations to
eliminate poverty. SETHRA involves the low-income population
it serves in the planning, administering and evaluating of
its programs |

A
tripartite Board of Directors governs SETHRA. This board is
comprised of elected public officials, private sector
representatives, and especially low-income residents. The
board of director's primary purpose is to assure that SETHRA
fulfills its mission and meets its goals. More specifically,
the board of directors' purpose is to set broad policy,
review and approve programs and budgets developed and
implemented by the Executive Director, and ensure financial
stability and accountability. |
